When a huge company like Google launches a new messaging app with Google Search, YouTube & Chrome built in, what more could you ask for?
Google have announced a brand new Messenger service for iOS, Android, mobile web and desktop called “Spaces”. Built around the idea of topics rather than people. You can have a Space for that weekend trip you’ve been planning and then another for possibly to going to see a film tonight.
There are currently three post types: links (including YouTube videos and GIFs), photos, and text. It works differently to a normal messenger app as you post a video or a gif for example and then people in your ‘space’ can comment on that separately, it’s like having your own forum with different topics to discuss.
You probably already have a Spaces account, one is given to every Gmail user, similar to how you have a YouTube, Google+, and Google Drive account all under the same roof. You can visit their website to install it now on any of your devices.
Using it hands on, it’s a good concept. It’s only just come out so it’s still a bit buggy, however in the near future we think it could be the #1 messaging app in the world. It’s convenient, responsive, and it looks clean. It’s just the trouble of getting all your friends to download it too.
